People rely on our guidance at a vulnerable time, so accuracy and care come first.
How we write
- Guides are written in plain English and checked against official sources — GOV.UK, mygov.scot, nidirect, gov.wales, the Competition and Markets Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. Each guide lists the sources we used.
- We explain differences between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland wherever the rules differ.
- Faith guidance describes widely shared practice and says clearly that customs vary between communities. We welcome review from faith leaders and community organisations.
- We cite statistics from named sources and never invent figures. Price ranges we calculate ourselves are labelled as indicative.
Updates
We review guides when rules or benefit rates change (usually each April) and show the date each guide was last updated.
Independence
No funeral director, funeral plan provider or advertiser can pay to change our guidance or the order of listings.
Corrections
If you spot an error, please tell us. We aim to correct factual errors within two working days.
