Where listings come from
Our directory starts from OpenStreetMap, the open, community-maintained map of the world, and is enriched with open UK postcode and boundary data. We add phone numbers and websites from the Overture Maps open places dataset when a record clearly matches the same business. We also add funeral directors that OpenStreetMap is missing, but only when the evidence is strong: a funeral business category, a high confidence score, more than one kind of source, a local phone number and no existing listing at that spot. Funeral directors can also claim and update their own listings.
How results are ordered
On town pages, funeral directors are listed by straight-line distance from the town centre. On “near me” searches they are ordered by distance from your location or postcode. Nobody can pay to appear higher.
Groups and ownership
We label Co-op Funeralcare, co-operative society and Dignity branches when their brand is recorded in the data. Some group-owned branches trade under a local family name, so an unlabelled listing is not necessarily independent — funeral directors must disclose their ultimate owner on their price list.
Faith specialists
We mark a funeral director as a faith specialist only when its name or listing clearly shows it (for example “Muslim Funeral Services”). Most funeral directors can arrange funerals for any faith, so always ask.
Faith pages for towns
We only publish a page such as “Muslim funeral directors in Birmingham” where there is genuine local provision — places of worship close to the town, or a specialist funeral director nearby — and we avoid near-duplicate pages for neighbouring towns.
Updates and corrections
Data is refreshed regularly. Every listing links to its source record and has a “suggest an edit” link.
